My brother Tom fondly called Divsy (Divine synchronization) is no more. Divsy was that responsible child in the family who believed strongly at a very tender age that teamwork was the key to "The African family Emancipation." To prove his point, after his very first income, Divsy got me covered under his pay cheque, a battle he won after a serious fight with my dad. Divsy was my father figure.
Divsy is no more, but his legacy lives forever. Divsy left his body, took his soul and gave me his mind. Yes, I was there to pray with him and listen to his dying declarations, I was there to give him his last meal. I was there to show him love, compassion, empathy, responsibility, and most of all, put my nursing skills into practice. Yes, I was there to close his eyes. I am so privileged to have gotten something from him that makes saying goodbye so hard. He will never truly leave me… why? because death did not touch his mind, and love leaves a memory no one can steal. Love was his watch word. He preached love, he practiced love, he showed me much love and he titled his book, “The Religion of Love.”
I don’t cry because it’s over instead, I smile because it happened so that I can learn from his works. His pattern and exemplary way of life remains a masterpiece for generations to come. He was a leader par excellence. He asked for so little but gave so much. He made a living by what he earned, but he made a life by what he gave. In the end, it’s not the years that count, but the life in the years. He completed his job on earth and had NO bucket list.
As he triumphantly, joyfully, and athletically runs to receive his crown, I hear the angels singing “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” — Matthew 25:21
Yes Chris ! I know how you must feel and how selfless you have been! I know now that brother Tom taught you so many things and I can recognize that the love you show for others you learnt from him.
Yes a real gentleman he was, as we use to joke during our university days!
May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace!
